The coronavirus quarantine has been a difficult time for us all. If there’s been one bright side to being stuck indoors for weeks on end, it’s that many have had the time to pursue various projects that we just couldn’t do while working. For one Twitter user, the lockdown has been the perfect time to compile a precise chronological order of every scene from all 23 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
The incredibly precise chronology comes from Marvel superfan Tony Goldmark, who was armed with a subscription to Disney+ and a lot of free time. The timeline begins with the first 3 minutes and 45 seconds of Thor: The Dark World (the eighth movie in release order) before moving onto a couple of Thor sequences from various points in the trilogy. These movies have a tendency to include flashbacks to into the deep, mythological past, so it makes sense to start there. Meanwhile, the most recent event in the MCU is the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Without further ado, behold:

Well, who else has weekend plans now?
Goldmark explained why he climbed this mountain in a blog post. “Armed with a Disney+ subscription and a sudden surplus of free time, my goal was to list the exact order (or at least AN exact order) of when every scene from every movie takes place within the MCU chronology.”
Given the time travel confusion in Endgame, he set himself one rule going into this:
"My rule was, I could only back up the Endgame time travel scenes into their proper ‘time’ in non-redundant instances where a full scene, with a proper beginning, middle and end, was completely unaffected by the future Avengers’ time-heist shenanigans."
Despite all his efforts, he still thinks you should watch the movies in the order they were released, as the filmmakers intended. “Finally, I can’t stress enough that this list is for MCU SUPERFANS *ONLY!* If there are any MCU movies you haven’t seen yet, I most emphatically recommend ignoring my list entirely and deferring to how the filmmakers wanted you to see them.”
It’ll be interesting to see how many of these people will go ahead and watch the MCU with the new timeline anyway. I would love to see some reviews of how the movies hold together like that, considering you’ll have to switch between them every couple of minutes.
And I don’t even want to think about how much more complicated this chronology will get with the release of Black Widow, which is set after Captain American: Civil War but before Avengers: Infinity War, to say nothing of all the Marvel TV shows on the way!
