Sigh, the one where we almost lost Jamie. I think the pace and momentum of the episode are excellent. It’s one of the first times that Roger and Jamie venture out on their own and truly spend time together. It was clear up to this point that Jamie didn’t exactly think the world of Roger, but there’s nothing like a near-death experience to bring people together.
While out on the hunt, Roger and Jamie split up from the group, and Jamie is bitten by a poisonous snake. Things take a turn for the worst from there. I was practically biting all my nails off during the whole ordeal, and I feared the worst: is Jamie really going to die?
Of course not! Outlander wouldn’t do that to us. But this episode does a good job of leading us to believe that the unspeakable just might happen.
I loved seeing the dynamic between Jamie and Roger form over the course of the episode. They bond over Brianna, a woman they both love dearly. But it also convinces Jamie to take Roger more seriously, something he didn’t really do before now.
The newfound trust also inspires Jamie to reveal that Stephen Bonnet is still alive and to pass along the responsibility of killing him to Roger. There was a time it would be hard to imagine something like that taking place, but I was so happy it did.
Oh, and the cherry on top? Jamie survived the poisonous bite and lived to see many more days!
