The Last Kingdom behind the scenes: Storyboards, stunts and more!
By Corey Smith
Netflix debuted the fourth season of its excellent medieval drama The Last Kingdom last month on Netflix, and while we quite enjoyed it, we’re already clamoring for the further adventures of Uhtred son of Uhtred. Will he ever retake Bebbanburg? Will King Edward take a chill pill? And how well will Aethelflaed’s rule Mercia? If you’re like us, you have hundreds of questions, and we won’t know for sure until we get a fifth season. Feel free to visit Netflix’s suggestion box and request that happen as soon as possible. We humbly suggest entering “The Last Kingdom Season 5″ in all three boxes, but that’s just us.
In the meantime, we’re still digesting season 4. Director Ed Bazalgette shared the storyboards for the opening clash between Uhtred’s dastardly uncle Aelfric and the rampaging Scots:
Does this make anyone want a Last Kingdom comic book adaptation?
Elsewhere, production designer Dominic Hyman shares a look at the planning stages at King Hywel’s holy pilgrimage following the Battle of Tettenhall:
Again, we need a Last Kingdom comic book now.
In this next behind-the-scenes video, James Northcote (Aldhelm) and stunt coordinator Levente Lezsák practice dying.
Medieval England was a rough place. Luckily for Northcote, this was only practice he had to do and Aldhelm survived season 4.
Finally, The Last Kingdom hair and makeup designer Katie Pickles pulls back the curtain on the people who make the characters look so damn good on camera:
Honestly, that sounds like a lot of work. Hats off to all those working behind the scenes to bring our favorite medieval adventure to life. Bring on season 5!
