Lucifer showrunner is as frustrated by the wait for season 5 as fans

Lucifer fans are among the most passionate around. After all, they campaigned to save the show — about what happens when Satan abandons his throne in hell to run a nightclub in Los Angeles — when Fox cancelled it after the third season, and they succeeded: Netflix picked up the series and ran a celebrated fourth season last year, and fans have been waiting for the follow-up ever since.

The kicker is that the fifth season, which sees Tom Ellis return to play the titular character, has already been shot, and under normal circumstances we might already have gotten to see it. But with the coronavirus grinding much of Hollywood to a halt, it’s been hard to put the finishing touches on shows and movies, and things have gotten delayed.

Of course, we don’t know the specifics of what’s holding up Lucifer, but we know it’s held up, and fans are frustrated. Hopefully they can take solace in knowing that showrunner Ildy Modrovich feels the exact same way:

And even if people are frustrated, Lucifer fans are reasonable enough to know that it’s not like the team behind the show can do much about the virus that’s spread across the world and upended so many lives, and so many industries:

So season 5 will happen when it happens. In the meantime, Modrovich can tease fans mercilessly. For example, one asked her to describe a scene between Lucifer and Chloe Decker, who have a long-running will-they-or-won’t-they romance going on, in emojis. She obliged:

So Lucifer and Chloe will unlock a door, fight each other for some reason, and then make up. Calling it now.

I gotta admit: we had new TV for a while, but now the delays are starting to wear a bit. But if Lucifer fans can get through this, they’ll have not only a fifth season waiting for them on the other side, but a sixth further down the pipe, with Tom Ellis recently confirming that he’s coming back at least one more time.
