1. “Blink” Season 3, Episode 10

We’ve finally arrived at my number one favorite episode of David Tennant’s run as the Tenth Doctor. And if you’re a Whovian, then you probably know  why. “Blink” gives us one of the most frightening villains, if not the most frightening villain, in the history of Doctor Who: the Weeping Angels.

Did you ever play the game “Statues” as a kid, where you had to stand stock still for however long your friend was looking at you? The Weeping Angels are kind of like that, only when you look away from them, they send you back to a random point in time and abandon you without hope of getting your old life back. In this season 3 episode, we are introduced to a character named Sally Sparrow who has to contend with the Weeping Angels, horrifying statues that can only move when not being observed.

With the help of warnings from the Doctor, the Weeping Angels are eventually defeated, but it’s the way the episode gets there that’s really intriguing. The Doctor helps defeat the enemy through the power of DVDs, which were very much still a thing in 2007.

I love how this episode isn’t as Doctor-heavy as we’re used to, and yet it still became one of the most popular episodes from the franchise. People still talk about this episode, and still have sleepless nights frightened of the Weeping Angels.

And, no, it wasn’t the last time we’d see them. But it may have been the best.

So some of these episodes were great because of David Tennant’s performance, and some were great even though he was barely in them. Whatever the case, David Tennant’s run as the Tenth Doctor marks a high point for the show that arguably still hasn’t been matched.
