4. Uhtred needs to retake Bebbanburg

This might be the most obvious thing on our list, but that doesn’t make it any less true. From the series’ very first episode, Uhtred losing Bebbanburg to his dastardly uncle has been at the heart of everything he does. With Aelfric now dead at the hands of his son Wihtgar, part of that vengeance has been achieved, but we still want to see Uhtred growing fat and bored in Bebbanburg before the series ends.

We can wait on the fat and bored bit, but after always being put on the back burner, it would be nice to finally see Uhtred take action from a place of power. Given Wihtgar’s murder of Beocca, Uhtred also has personal reason for taking back his ancestral home…well, another personal reason. The political climate in England changed vastly in season 4, and those changes could tilt the balance in Uhtred’s favor.

Unlike his rushed and ultimately doomed attempt to retake Bebbanburg in season 4, Uhtred now has two powerful allies in Aethelflaed and Sigtryggr. Whether it’s with Mercian soldiers or Viking warriors, Uhtred should be able to secure the men he needs to finally retake his home. Wihtgar isn’t likely to go easily, but before season 5 ends, Uhtred seems destined to reclaim his birthright…right?

Whatever happens, we can’t wait three more seasons to see Uhtred make another attempt to return to Bebbanburg. The time is now.
