After what seemed like an eternity — a socially distanced, quarantined eternity — Netflix finally released some news about the upcoming season(s) of Lucifer, the show about what happens when Satan (Tom Ellis) abandons his throne in hell to run a nightclub in Los Angeles, and also to consult for the LAPD.
At long last, we know that season 5 will drop on August 21…or at least, the first half will. The next block of episodes will come later, until all 16 are available to watch. And now, TV Line has revealed that the new season will feature an actor familiar to fans of The CW’s Supernatural.
No, it’s not Sam or Dean Winchester, but it is weirdly perfect. Rob Benedict, who plays God (aka Chuck Shurley) on Supernatural, will appear on Lucifer as Vincent Le Mec, a French mercenary in LA for no doubt nefarious reasons. He’ll appear in the fifteenth episode, so the second crop dropping later.
Wouldn’t it be a kick if Benedict was actually playing God? I’d suspect that TV Line might be pulling a fast one if it hadn’t already been revealed that Dennis Haysbert is playing God in Lucifer season 5. Still, you’d figure God could appear in different guises. He’s God, for heaven’s sake.
Anyway, the upcoming fifth season of Lucifer was originally going to be the last, but Netflix has officially ordered a sixth. There’s time to explore lots of avenues.
