Jedi of old help Rey defeat Palpatine in fan edit of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
By Dan Selcke
In the climactic scene of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey faces down the resurrected Emperor Palpatine, deflecting his Force lightning back at him and burning him away forever. (We hope; I mean, he couldn’t miraculously survive two brushes with death, could he?) It’s a powerful scene that features vocal cameos from Jedi past, including Luke and Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and more. Rey hears their voices in her head, and draws from their strength to push through and end the battle.
Now, YouTuber jon h has taken things a step further and actually edited the several of the Jedi speaking to Rey into the scene itself. They appear as translucent Force ghosts, lending moral support and upturned hands. Check it out:
It’s very cool to see Prequel Trilogy-era Anakin alongside Original Trilogy-era Obi-Wan alongside Sequel Trilogy-era Luke. And of course Yoda looks the same no matter what. This is great work!
Of course, there are some Jedi whom Rey heard in her head that don’t appear in the edit. We heard Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu, for example, and Ashley Eckstein’s Ahsoka Tano. That last one would have been particularly hard to include, since thus far Ahsoka has only appeared in animated shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and would have looked odd alongside the live-action Jedi in the scene. But give it a minute, and we should have a new source to draw from:
