In Treason and Plot, Missy gets herself involved in a major historical event in the third episode of her Doctor Who spin-off box set Missy: Series 2.

The third episode of Doctor Who spin-off box set Missy: Series 2 is a bit of a light adventure. With Missy finding herself stuck in 1605, she decides it’s best to change history a little. Specifically, by ensuring that the infamous Gunpowder Plot succeeds.

If you’re British, you’ll more than likely be aware of the Gunpowder Plot. The failed plot of Robert Catesby, Guy Fawkes, and numerous others to blow up the Houses of Parliament is an essential part of British history. If you’re outside of the UK, it’s what V for Vendetta constantly referred to with, “Remember, remember, the Fifth of November”.

Why does Missy want to change history in such a drastic way? What is her ultimate goal in this episode? And is a rookie Time Agent really her biggest threat this time? If so, then history really is doomed.

Missy says the line

Honestly, Gemma Arrowsmith’s script is a lot of fun to listen to. It’s definitely a rather light story, in fact, it’s really more of a comedy historical.

But that doesn’t stop Arrowsmith from having plenty of fun with Missy. Like Lisa McMullin’s The Lumiat, Missy gets to be unashamedly evil in this episode, killing people at a whim and enjoying the chaos and destruction she’s causing. Best of all, Arrowsmith gets Michelle Gomez to say the line. You know the one I mean. It’s taken nearly six years, but Gomez finally says the iconic line in this episode, and she completely owns it.

The Time Agent Rita Cooper is a rather fun character. Wanting a better life for herself, she instead keeps being sent on the most boring jobs a time traveller could ask for. So when she meets Missy, she finally gets to have a bit of excitement. But is she really able to stop her?

Treason and Plot is a fun story for the series. It doesn’t have a great deal of depth, but Missy using the Gunpowder Plot for her own ends is definitely fun to listen to. An enjoyable comedy episode that still features plenty of evil moments for Missy.
