AMC is making movies about Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, but they’re on hold like everything else. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing…
Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) may no longer be a part of AMC’s The Walking Dead series, but his story is far from over. In fact, he’ll be headlining his own series of Walking Dead movies!
But what’s happening with those films? We haven’t heard anything about them for a while. Well, like a lot of movies and TV shows in the age of corona, the Rick Grimes movies are on hold for now. But according to an IGN interview The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman did, that may not be a bad thing:
"There’s tons of stuff going on behind the scenes. I don’t want anyone to think that we’re just kind of waiting around for this pandemic to end. I would say that, if anything, the pandemic is going to make a lot of movies better. I think the Rick Grimes movie chief among them, just because we’re getting a lot more time to cook this thing and make sure it’s perfect. But when things do quiet down, you guys are going to hear a ton more about this movie."
I’m actually relieved that they’re getting more time to mull over the particulars of Rick’s story, considering how important he is to the series. Everything Walking Dead started with Rick, so whatever happens in the movies needs to live up to that legacy.
And with that extra time, I hope the writers find a way to effectively weave in other characters, like Michonne. Danai Gurira also bid farewell to The Walking Dead as her character went off in search of Rick, who she now believes to be alive. She seems like a perfect fit for the films.
As far as what the movies will be about, we’re still not sure, but I believe it will connect a lot of the missing dots in the Walking Dead universe. I’m talking mainly about the symbol we’ve seen across the current shows, and the group that represents it. There’s some strange mystery going on there. The last time we saw Rick, he loaded onto a helicopter bearing this symbol.
What’s the story there? Who could this group be? Are they here to help Rick or hurt him?
