Star Trek: Discovery season 3 will feature more face-to-face time with some fan favorite characters.
The third season of Star Trek: Discovery is coming down the pike sooner or later, and when it does, fans are going to get more of fan-favorite character Linus (David Benjamin Tomlinson), a Saurian science officer introduced in the show’s second season.
I mean, the fact that what is essentially a lizard person has such an unassuming name is charming enough. And Linus is polite, too, apologizing when the universal translator has trouble with the clicks and pops of his native language. I’m on board.
“When I walked into the prosthetics trailer for my first camera test and I saw the prosthetic I gasped,” Tomlinson said during a Star Trek: Discovery panel during this past Sunday’s Virtual Trek Con. “I fell so in love. It is such a beautiful work of art and finding the character was amazing. I don’t know how or why it has all happened the way it has, but I am really excited and honored and grateful to be a part of it and to have a relationship with this character… It’s amazing that fans love Linus as much as I do. I feel huge affection for this character.”

Linus is often paired with first officer Saru (Doug Jones), a member of the Kelpien species. Perhaps they bond over having some…different-looking faces, and Jones promises that their relationship will continue in season 3. “I love screentime together and you are going to see a couple more moments with us in season three, together.”
Later, the two of them even gave us some specifics:
"Tomlinson: “When I have had to eat onscreen it is mostly greens. I have had a lot of spinach and a lot of leafy greens…We see a little more in season three of what he eats.”Jones: “We do, and I am just going to say it: it is one of the funniest moments of the entire season. I love Linus so much!”"
And maybe some Saurian brandy to wash it down? That stuff’s been around since Star Trek: The Original Series. ” I do think at some point there does have to be a brandy tip of the hat moment, though,” Tomlinson said. “It has been so talked about. I would love to see Linus get explored more, but it is a series with so many characters and so much story, you just fit in where you fit in.”
Other highlights include Hannah Spear implying that she could return as Saru’s sister Siranna. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw her.” Considering that season 3 is already far enough along to have a teaser trailer, I imagine she knows for sure and is playing coy.
