Outlander star joins Amazon’s Wheel of Time show

Maria Doyle Kennedy, lately of Outlander, gets even more fantastical as she joins the cast of Amazon’s The Wheel of Time adaptation!

Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series has a famously big cast — like, we’re talking hundreds and hundreds of characters — and Amazon is announcing new actors for its forthcoming TV adaptation all the time. We already know who will be playing some of the big movers and shakers — Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, Zoë Robins as Nyneave al’Meara, and so on — but it’s the minor characters who really fill out Jordan’s world.

The latest casting announcement came just the other day, with Amazon pulling the curtain back on some of the actors who will be playing the Tuatha’an, a nomadic, pacifistic Traveling People whom a couple of our heroes encounter in the first book, The Eye of the World.

That’s Maria Doyle Kennedy and Narinder Samra as Illa and Raen, a married couple, and Daryl McCormack as their grandson Aram…or at least, he’s their grandson in the books; we’ll see if Amazon makes any tweaks.

Kennedy, at least, may be familiar to fans of fantasy TV, since she plays Jacosta in Outlander, Starz’s time-traveling romance show. She struck up a romance with Murtagh, Jamie Fraser’s godfather, in the fourth season, and had some excellent scenes in the most recent season 5.

There’s been no shortage of actors joining the cast of The Wheel of Time. If Amazon wants to cast every character in the book — it can’t possible, but let’s just imagine — it could pretty much employ all of Hollywood. We know it has the cash.
