8. Episode 208, “Prestonpans”: Jamie wins the day
The Battle of Prestonpans is one of my favorite battle scenes on the show, possibly still my number one. Perhaps the biggest reason for that is because of how well Sam Heughan conveys Jamie Fraser’s tenacity and resilience.
In this battle, the odds are stacked against the Highlanders as the British outnumber them in men and guns. But it doesn’t stop Jamie from keeping their hype level up. And it works! The Highlanders win the day.
I love everything about how Jamie handles this battle. Watching him, we realize what an intelligent strategist he can be, something that may not have occurred to us when we first meet him. With Heughan at the center of this conflict, you hang on every word Jamie says, and grip the edges of your chair for every brutal, horrifying moment of war.
Kudos to Sam Heughan for the flawless performance — he is the real deal, folks!
