Sam Heughan’s Top 10 Best Moments as Jamie Fraser on Outlander

2. Episode 507, “The Ballad of Roger Mac”: Murtagh dies in Jamie’s arms
The relationship between Jamie and his godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) has always been beautiful to watch. Even when they’ve been apart, the bond between them has never been broken. That’s why this episode is so incredibly difficult to watch.
During the Battle of Alamance, Jamie dons the British redcoat, much to his displeasure, and is forced to fight on the side opposite of his godfather. Jamie doesn’t want to hurt him, of course, but a battle is a battle, and we soon find Murtagh taking his final breaths.
Whenever I think about this scene, I snap right to Heughan’s face, with despair welling in his eyes. It genuinely feels as if Heughan is mourning the loss of a loved one. It’s incredibly believable and tragically gripping.
I will never forget this episode, and the number it did on my emotions. By the end I was exhausted, so I can’t even begin to fathom how Heughan got through it all.
I have said this before and I will say it again: this episode is the reason Sam Heughan deserves to be nominated for an Emmy this year.
