Clearly, there are a lot of Star Wars fans still not over some of the tomfoolery that went down in The Rise of Skywalker.

The Star Wars fandom is famously passionate. When they love something, you’re gonna hear about it. And when they don’t…

The most recent Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker, was famously divisive…in a completely different way than the movie before that, The Last Jedi, was divisive. A lot of people took issue with some of the plot turns, from Emperor Palpatine coming back from the dead to Rey secretly being his granddaughter and more.

But now, Redditor DaTruestEva has pinpointed what they think is “one of, if not the dumbest moments in all of SW,” and they have a LOT of support…like, 6,000-plus responses in support.

"Without a doubt, one of, if not the dumbest moments in all of SW from StarWars"

So this is the moment that Rey and company visit the ruins of the Death Star to find a Sith wayfinder that can lead them to the planet where Palpatine is hiding. To find the wayfinder, they have to find a Sith dagger that apparently has a little protractor-looking tool inside it that indicates where in the ruins the wayfinder will be.

I guess I can see why this would frustrate some folks. To start, should there be ruins of the Death Star in the first place? Didn’t it…

"The Death Star ruins appearing in the Rise of Skywalker is ridiculous from StarWars"

But the bigger issue, as Redditor jinreeko puts it, is that this moment “literally relied upon the Death Star ruins existing in the shape of its little tape measure.” We’re not told exactly how old the dagger is, but it’s made out to be some sort of ancient weapon. If that’s the case, it’s a little weird that apparently it matches the contours of a ruined spaceship that wouldn’t be built for years. And even if the dagger was made after the ship went down, did the ruins never shift at all in the middle of that swirling sea? How did Rey know where to stand? And so on.

Basically, the thread is an opportunity for fans to unload run through their problems with the movie, and they have a lot. “Yeah the knife was like one fetch quest too many,” said Redditor JonSnow31391. “Like the wayfinder, then the dagger, then to kimji for C3P0’s block, then the coordinates couldn’t just be read, they had to be unfolded from the dagger.”

So yeah, people have problems. And it’s definitely fun to gripe, but other fans are trying to calm the waters by pointing out: aren’t all the Star Wars movies kinda silly?

"Star Wars is better when we’re not arguing about which movie is best or worst… so here’s a stupid moment from all 12 movies from StarWars"

Whether it’s through hate or through love, these movies do have a way of bringing people together.
