Pandemic delayed Rogue One prequel, but The Mandalorian season 2 still on schedule

There are a LOT of Star Wars TV shows coming to Disney+. Which ones have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and which ones are still on schedule?

It’s no secret that the coronavirus pandemic has affected TV production around the world. (I mean, the pandemic has affected pretty much every industry everywhere, but let’s focus on TV for the moment.) That include’s Disney’s upcoming slate of Star Wars shows, of which there are many. You’ve got the second season of The Mandalorian, an Obi-Wan Kenobi show with Ewan McGregor, a sequel to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and so on.

Specifically, Diego Luna has talked to The Guardian about how the pandemic has slowed down his upcoming Star Wars show, a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that will explore what his character, Cassian Andor, as he’s working as a spy for the Rebellion.

"Shooting is starting around the world, so slowly, we’re going back, but there’s no rush. To me, what this pandemic brought to my attention is that there [are] priorities. We have to be cautious, and we have to be wise on when and how to go back. And the how is the most important, because if we go back to be who we were, we’ve wasted our opportunity, we wasted a major opportunity of rethinking and reinventing much of the stuff we believed was crucial and essential that clearly is not."

He’s right that shows are slowly getting back to work, and it looks like many of them are indeed implementing new safety procedures to make sure cast and crew members are protected. The behind-the-scenes photos on the second season of The Witcher show the start of a new normal.

But not all shows will be delayed. On a recent earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek assured stockholders that the second season of The Mandalorian would arrive in October as originally scheduled. Season 2 was shot before the coronavirus pandemic really kicked in, so it’s been easier to get it to the finish line.

Season 3, though? That could be a different story.
