25 moments Netflix’s remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender MUST get right
Sokka Mastering the Sword
Since the entire premise of The Last Airbender revolves around Aang mastering the four elements, it makes sense that the series’ benders are often front and center. But that also means that Katara’s sarcastic brother Sokka doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves. “Sokka’s Master” puts our favorite non-bender in the spotlight as he masters an important skill of his own: learning to use a sword.
Sokka’s training sessions may not be as flashy as Aang’s, but that means it’ll be easier for Netflix to adapt in live action. And the action isn’t what makes this installment so compelling, anyway; it’s witnessing Sokka’s character growth as he comes to the conclusion that some things are more important than the divisions between the Fire Nation and Water Tribes.
“Sokka’s Master” offers plenty of life lessons for viewers to take away, sword action, and a study of Sokka’s personality and growth — what more could we ask for?
