The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs would “absolutely” return as Carl

The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) would “absolutely” return to the franchise. Yes, it’d be tricky, but not impossible…
For anyone hoping to see former Walking Dead Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) back in action on the AMC show, the actor recently revealed that he would “absolutely” return.
Of course, that would be rather difficult as Carl is already dead in the show, but the writers can always find a way. Maybe a vision or a flashback?
The show is no stranger to bringing back dead characters. Look at Merle Dixon, who was left for dead on a rooftop and came back seasons later alongside the Governor. Then there are characters who returned in flashbacks, such as Shane and Hershel. Even Rick Grimes is making a comeback in a series of movies after seemingly getting blown up and killed on a bridge. Like father, like son?
Carl’s death, however, was pretty final. He went out in the season 8 episode “Honor,” where he’s bitten by a Walker after saving the Alexandrians by escorting them into a tunnel beneath the town. Carl shoots himself in a church before he turns.
As expected, there were a lot of fans who weren’t happy with Carl’s death well. Many saw him as the future of the show, which is basically what happens in Robert Kirkman’s comics. But the writers had other ideas. The decision still divides fans.
Riggs talked about whether he would come back to the show in an Instagram interview with Tommy DiDario. “Absolutely. It’s been a lot of fun,” Riggs teased.
Of course, he knows there are difficulties there. “I don’t really see it happening in any current medium of the show, but maybe, hopefully, in something else.”
That “something else” may be the Rick Grimes movies. Even if it happens in a vision or dream, a family reunion would be emotional.
Speaking more generally about The Walking Dead, Riggs looked back on what he consider’s Carl’s best seasons. “I think season 4 showed the biggest growth from Carl from start to end, and it was the first time that I feel like they let Carl blossom into his own character,” he said. “From the end of season 3 to the start of season 5, all of that in-between, they let Carl grow into his own character, outside of just being ‘the kid’.”
Unlike a lot of characters who were killed off and never mentioned again, Carl is still mentioned regularly despite dying two seasons ago. “I’m happy with the way things went down, and happy that Carl … left behind a legacy,”
Carl might not be in The Walking Dead anymore, but the show is still going well with the highly-anticipated season 10 finale arriving October 4 after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. After the finale, if you still can’t get enough Walking Dead, AMC will be airing their new spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
