7. HK-47

Who doesn’t enjoy the adventures of a murderous assassin robot? The IG bounty hunter droid introduced in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back became an iconic character and he only appeared for a few seconds, and we’re still not over how the IG unit from The Mandalorian series gave his life for Mando and The Child. Star Wars fans definitely have a soft spot for droids.

That brings us to HK-47, an assassin droid created by Darth Revan meant to hunt Jedi. That idea is awesome enough by itself, but what really set HK-47 apart is his demeanor. He’s sort of similar to C-3P0: very direct and official. Except when C-3P0 is done talking, you’re just annoyed. When HK-47 stops talking, you’re probably dead.

As HK-47 has famously said, “It is my primary function to burn holes through meatbags that you wish removed from the galaxy.” And he means it.

HK-47’s journey does not end when Darth Revan is redeemed. The droid bounces around the galaxy and worked for a variety of different Masters, most of whom turned up dead. Eventually, he finds his way back to Revan, then a part of the Jedi Order. Their unique friendship continued even though Revan no longer followed the Dark Side. In the novel Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan, HK-47 even seeks out Revan when he goes missing.

A lot of Star Wars droids can come off as irritating, but HK-47 has a special connection with fans we want to see realized on film. He could appear alongside Revan, Malak, Mandalore The Great, and Bastila in an adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic or hold up his own story, perhaps introducing us to those other characters.

Okay, it’s time to move away from KOTOR and look at some wonderful characters from elsewhere in the Star Wars timeline.
