3. The intersecting nation of the storylines in Incarnations of Immortality would give the TV adaptation a unique tone

The intersecting storylines we mentioned are one of the most unique and satisfying elements of the series. We get many of the major interactions between characters in the first book, so while we’ll read an interaction between Death and Time in On a Pale Horse, we’ll read it again in Bearing an Hourglass, but this time from Time’s point of view, where we see how it affects Time both emotionally and physically.

The series keeps up this kaleidoscopic storytelling right through to the end, adding layers as it goes. The finale feels a little like the Avengers coming together after a decade of one-off movies about each superhero on their individual adventures. When they meet up for the finale, we understand where all of them are coming from because we’ve spent time with all of them individually.

Time is one of the more interesting characters because, unlike some the other immortals, we can tell when something is happening for him, because he ages…backwards. He’s crucial to keeping the timeline together. There’s a puzzle box element to some of the book series that could be a lot of fun on TV.
