The cast of Supernatural sends out heartfelt messages on the show’s final day of filming…but Jensen Ackles (Dean) doesn’t think it’s the forever-end.

Following a 15-season run, The CW’s Supernatural wrapped its final day of filming on Thursday, bringing the story of Sam and Dean Winchester to a close. The series had originally planned to finish filming its final season back in April, but production was forced to come to a halt when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. That gave the cast, crew, and fans a little more time to come to terms with saying goodbye to their favorite pair of demon hunters, but the time to part ways has finally arrived.

The cast and crew took to social media yesterday to talk about their experience on the series, and to say thank you and goodbye to everyone involved. On Twitter, series creator Eric Kripke scared a photo of the first Supernatural scene they ever shot. “I’m grateful & love you all beyond words,” he wrote. “But it’s only over when you say it is, #SPNFamily.”

Misha Collins, who plays fan-favorite character Castiel, also shared an emotional goodbye on Twitter. “You’ve changed my life in so many ways and you changed the world for the better,” he wrote. “Fight on.”

However, as everyone was saying their farewells, Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean, shared a very different message, suggesting that there could be a Supernatural revival somewhere down the line.

Speaking on an episode of Inside of You, Ackles said that he could see The CW bringing the series back for a few episodes in a few years. “I’ve always thought that there’s a possibility of five years down the road, getting the call saying, ‘Hey let’s do a little short order action for a streaming network’ and bringing it back for six episodes,” he said. “I do feel like this isn’t the long goodbye right now. I feel like this is, ‘Let’s hang this in the closet for now, and we’ll dust her off down the road a bit.'”

Given Supernatural‘s dedicated cast and fanbase, a revival — even a short one — would probably work out well. If they’ve been able to come up with 15 seasons’ worth of content, they could probably think up a few more stories for these characters, especially if there’s a time jump involved.

That said, for now, the show is saying goodbye. The final episodes begin airing again on October 8, with the series finale heading our way November 19. After that, Ackles is off to work on season three of The Boys — at least until that revival call comes, anyway.
