10 spookiest Psych episodes to binge on Peacock
By Devin Shea
10. “Scary Sherry: Bianca’s Toast,” S01E15
This was the very first of the spooky Psych episodes, and it would set the precedent that there be at LEAST one spooky episode per season. This was only one of two episodes that actually used Halloween as a theme, although it played a small role in the episode overall. Since this is the first season, the show is still finding its footing when it comes to its sense of humor.
I will tell you now that we will be seeing pretty much the same faces through every episode: Shawn Spencer, Burton Guster, Det. Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), Det. Juliet O’Hara (Maggie Lawson), Henry Spencer (Corbin Bersen) and Chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson).
This spooky Psych episode starts with Shawn and Gus as children in a flashback (a common theme for the first 5 or 6 seasons). The boys have finished their trick-or-treating when Shawn’s dad, Henry, gets a call from the local asylum. A young girl is going to jump and the kids see (or think they see) her jumping, kick-starting the local urban legend of Scary Sherry. Fast forward to the present and weird stuff is happening in a sorority after the accidental death of one of the sisters. Is it her “lumbering ghost” coming back for revenge?
This was one of the first episodes that comes to mind when I think of Shawn and Gus being the scaredy cats they are, running at the first sign of a ghost. Their high-pitched screams are one of the best parts of the show and become a running joke in later episodes. This isn’t my favorite scary episode, but it’s definitely a classic.
