7. “Shawn (and Gus) of the Dead,” S02E16

This is another personal favorite of mine, and one that I have watched more times than I would like to admit. Growing up, I always had a fascination with ancient Egypt, pyramids, mummies and everything about the ancient world. I idolized archaeologists like Indiana Jones, so when I saw an episode based in the ancient Egypt display of a museum, I knew that this was going to become a fast favorite.

Shawn is called to a museum very late at night (or very early in the morning depending on how you look at it). There was a robbery; the brand new mummy is missing. Somehow, the mummy wasn’t caught on any of the security cameras leaving the museum and there is no evidence that anyone broke in. It seems as though the mummy walked out on its own.

Gus, ever superstitious, is convinced he and Shawn will be cursed by the mummy, but they continue the investigation, as the night security guard with the criminal record is also missing. It turns out the missing mummy may have less to do with ancient Egypt and more to do with another case being investigated.

This spooky Psych episode is another one that showcases Shawn and Gus’s cowardice, especially when they’re faced with a 3,000-year-old mummified corpse. I love how this feels like an Abbott and Costello skit while keeping the Psych format.
