3. “Tuesday the 17th,” S03E15

“Tuesday the 17th” is the episode for slasher fans. It’s full of homages to movies like Friday the 13th, April Fools Day, Sleepaway Camp and more. While most of the spooky Psych episodes have a lot of humor in them, this one leans more serious, with some jokes in there to break things up. While I’m a big fan of Psych’s funny side, I love how the team approached this episode.

“Tuesday the 17th” starts with a flashback of Shawn and Gus at summer camp. They’re having an argument because Gus chooses Jason Cunningham (Mackenzie Astin) to build a piñata with for a competitioninstead of Shawn. Their piñata wins, while Shawn was left to make a Rick Astley piñata with the kid who wore a winter coat all summer long.

Twenty years later, Jason shows up at the Psych office needing assistance. He bought Camp Tikihama, had to close after a janitor died of electrocution, but is about to reopen. But a camp counselor has gone missing, and he needs their help to find her. Shawn reluctantly takes the case, but when they get to the camp, it gives off a very creepy vibe and nothing is as it seems.

I adore this episode, and there are fun little Easter eggs throughout the entire thing. One of my favorites is an appearance by the infamous Robert the Doll!
