The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln gives fans an update on how the upcoming Rick Grimes movies are going.

The Walking Dead might be nearing its end, but the wider franchise has more going on than ever! Aside from the already long-running spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, we’ve also got The Walking Dead: World Beyond on the way, as well as two new shows: a spinoff about Carol and Daryl, and the other an anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead.

And if that wasn’t enough, Andrew Lincoln will also reprise his role as Rick Grimes in a trilogy of movies. So far, these movies have been very mysterious. We don’t have many details on what Rick will get up to, although we do have this cool little teaser:

Lincoln isn’t spilling any of the movies’ secrets, but he did confirm that he’s still working on them, telling Collider about an interaction with a fan excited to see Rick return:

"All I heard was, ‘Come back, Rick.’ It was so moving. I turned around, and I just went, ‘We’re working on it.’ So that’s my answer to you, we’re working on it."

That fan was speaking for the entire fanbase when he shouted at Lincoln. And hey, it got results, even if the answer was short and sweet.

And the fans aren’t the only ones eager to see The Walking Dead up on the big screen. Several actors have put themselves forward as possible additions, the latest being Fantastic Beasts veteran Dan Fogler. He played Luke, a member of a new group of survivors introduced after Rick leaves in the season 9 episode “What Comes After.”

“I would love to make some interesting appearances in one of the movies coming out, maybe even get to work with Rick. I never got to work with [Lincoln],” Folger told The Movie Dweeb. “I would love to crossover onto the big screen, that would be fun. I just feel that movie would be epic.”

Lincoln will be joined in the movies by Pollyanna McIntosh; her character, Jadis, saved Rick’s life in by carrying him away in a helicopter.

Chances are that we’ll be waiting a while, at least a couple of years, before we see Andrew Lincoln reprise his most famous role. In the meantime, we’re about to be treated to a lot of Walking Dead action in the coming weeks. On October 4 we’re getting the season 10 finale, immediately followed by the pilot of The Walking Dead: World Beyond! And then, if you’re still hungry for more, we’re getting six additional season 10 episodes in January.
