Doctor Who fans name David Tennant their favorite Doctor, edging out Jodie Whittaker

Tens of thousands of Whovians voted to settle an age-old question: Who is the best Doctor on Doctor Who? Our current Thirteenth Doctor JUST missed the top spot.

David Tennant is one of the most beloved Doctors of all time, and now he has the votes to prove it. Radio Times conducted a poll asking Whovians to vote for their favorite Doctor, choosing between all 13 we’ve had so far. Funnily, enough, it included Tennant’s father-in-law Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor, who came in last place. That’ll be a fun family conversation, huh?

Coming in closely behind Tennant was our current Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker, who represents a new take on the character and has made the role her own. The two had a pretty tight race for the top spot. Here’s how the voting broke down:

  1. David Tennant: 10,518 votes (21%)
  2. Jodie Whittaker 10,423 (21%)
  3. Peter Capaldi: 8,897 (18%)
  4. Matt Smith 7,637 (16%)
  5. Tom Baker 3,977 (8%)
  6. William Hartnell 1,983 (4%)
  7. Paul McGann 1,427 (3%)
  8. Christopher Eccleston 1,144 (2%)
  9. Jon Pertwee 1,038 (2%)
  10. Patrick Troughton 915 (2%)
  11. Sylvester McCoy 462 (1%)
  12. Colin Baker 359 (1%)
  13. Peter Davison 351 (1%)

My vote, had I participated, would have definitely gone to David Tennant because he is my favorite Doctor of all time, hands down. His run as the Doctor is inspiring and thought-provoking. There’s just something about the way Tennant played the character that no one else has been able to match, and I’ve always looked for it in every Doctor since.

Whittaker has come close and I’m not surprised she almost won. Personally, Matt Smith is my second favorite Doctor, followed by Whittaker. Given that Smith came in fourth place, I think most folks would agree that they all collectively fall in the top five range.

While Tennant is unlikely to return to the actual series, we can look forward to his appearance in the upcoming Doctor Who audio adventures from Big Finish, including “Dalek Universe.” And I simply cannot wait for those adventures to release over the next year.

Next. The Mandalorian season 2 will show us “the power of Baby Yoda. dark
