Yep, [REDACTED] is playing Boba Fett in The Mandalorian

Not only do we officially know who will play Boba Fett in the second season of The Mandalorian, it looks like he’ll have a fairly meaty role.

The first season of The Mandalorian on Disney+ kept its focus pretty tight on the title character and his traveling buddy, the adorable Baby Yoda. But if you believe some of what we’ve heard, the second season — which premieres on October 30 — will bring in a who’s who of familiar Star Wars characters: Rosario Dawson may show up as Clone Wars veteran Ahsoka Tano, Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff will play Bo-Katan, Star Wars Rebels characters Sabine Wren and Rex may show up…it’s getting crowded in that galaxy far, far away…

We’ve also heard that Boba Fett, the iconic bounty hunter who became popular after his appearance in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, will turn up. In fact, we may have already seen him. Lots of fans think that he was the mysterious figure who appeared at the tail end of the fifth episode, “The Gunslinger,” stalking through the sands of Tatooine at night and approaching the body of mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen):

And who will play Boba Fett? Typically, it’s not entirely clear. The report that makes the most sense is that Temuera Morrison will play him. Morrison played Boba Fett’s “father” Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequel movies. Since Boba Fett was a perfect copy of Jango, it follows that Morrison could play the son as he played the father.

To complicate matters, we’ve also heard that Timothy Olyphant may also be playing Boba Fett…but that situation is more complicated. Head here to find out more on that.

Anyway, Redditor u/bguiler recently checked out Morrison’s CV and found that it did indeed list him as playing Boba, so that question is all but settled.

What’s more, the entry for listing Morrison as playing Boba Fett in The Mandalorian disappeared after this image started spreading around the net, which means that Morrison’s agency likely saw it, realized they had said too much, and deleted it. As far as I’m concerned, that pretty much proves that Morrison is indeed playing Boba. What was that line Tyrion Lannister said on Game of Thrones? “When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

I mean, the analogy isn’t perfect but you get the gist.

What’s especially interesting is that Morrison’s CV lists him as playing Boba Fett for “various” directors, meaning the bounty hunter is probably going to be in more than one episode. So this isn’t just a cameo; Boba could be part of the story. Might we get a Mando-vs-Mando showdown?

There’s one question we haven’t addressed: didn’t Boba Fett die falling into the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi? How can he be around to be in The Mandalorian at all? As usual, that’s another long story:
