Sony changes Peter Parker to look like Tom Holland and fans are confused

Spider-Man Remastered, coming next month, will change a lot of things about the game, including Peter Parker’s face. Not all the fans are pleased, though.

Sony is giving its 2018 Spider-Man video game a next-generation makeover as it upgrades the game for the forthcoming PlayStation 5. That’s not a surprise — the game was one of the biggest hits of the last generation of consoles –but one change has everyone confused.

Spider-Man Remastered will bring about a bevy of changes, including 60fps gameplay and almost instant loading times. But by far the most peculiar change is the appearance of the titular character, who now looks strangely similar to Tom Holland, who plays Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Previously, Peter Parker’s face was model after actor John Bubniak, and if anything looked a little like Andrew Garfield from the Amazing Spider-Man movies. The new face model is not Tom Holland,  — it’s actually the face of model Ben Jordan — but it sure does look like him.

Despite the change in appearance, Yuri Lowenthal remains the voice actor for Peter Parker. His face doesn’t really come into the discussion.

Sony explained that the change suits Peter Parker’s voice:

"We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console. He looks incredible in-game, and Yuri’s moving performances take on a new life."

They don’t mention the likeness to Holland, but I’m sure it was factored in!

One of the main concerns is that the new Parker looks younger than the previous one. The game’s version of Parker is a little older, so the reminder of Holland’s high-school-age take on the hero has thrown some fans for a loop.

Parker isn’t the only element of the game getting a makeover. New York City itself is getting refined textures, improved weather conditions and more.

The remastered edition is slated for a November release. Sony has already come under some fire for not giving players a free upgrade on PS5. In order to get it, you’ll have to get the Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales or buy it through the in-game store on the standard edition of Miles Morales for $20.

I think this is a bad move from Sony. They’re charging people for a next-generation upgrade merely two years after the game originally released. But hey, Tom Holland fans should be all over it!

Next. Let’s dreamcast the X-Men before they appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. dark
