There may be another The Witcher spin-off in the works at Netflix

The Witcher already has several spin-offs in the works, but rumor has it there could be another Witcher spin-off in the works at Netflix about the mages.

Despite only having one season under its belt, Netflix’s The Witcher is quickly becoming the next big fantasy franchise. Not only does it have a second season in the works (with a strong likelihood of a third), but the show already has two spin-offs confirmed: an animated film following Geralt of Rivia and his mentor and a live-action prequel telling the story of the very first Witcher.

And as though fans of the show didn’t have enough to look forward to, rumor has it there may be another Witcher spin-off in the works, too — one that will focus on the fantasy world’s mages. We’ve already gotten a glimpse into the ways of The Witcher’s sorceresses through Yennefer and her experience under the tutelage of Tissaia. But if Witcher this spin-off is greenlit, fans could be treated to a more in-depth look at the history of magic in The Witcher universe.

The report comes from Daniel Richtman, who responded to the news of Blood Origin by saying “it’s not the only spin-off in development.” Of course, we’ve already learned from HBO’s Game of Thrones prequels that “in development” does not necessarily mean it’s a sure thing. But if there’s one area of The Witcher world that deserves some additional attention, it’s this one.

The magic of The Witcher world spans years, and reactions to mages change heavily over the course of the original series’ timeline alone. It’d be fascinating to go even further back or forward on the timeline and see how sorcery has evolved. (It would also likely give us a whole new slate of magicians to follow, and how can we complain about that?)

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but Netflix certainly seems intent on growing this world. We won’t be surprised if an official announcement does arrive soon — but we will be even more excited.
