Geralt of Rivia’s armor hits the gym in new Witcher pics

Netflix releases the first official pics from the second season of The Witcher, which continues the series’ hallmark of sorta goofy-looking armor:

After a COVID-19-mandated break, Netflix is back to work on the second season of The Witcher, it’s new fantasy series that already has a couple of spinoffs in the works. Now, the streaming service has released a sneak peak of what lead character Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) will look like in the show’s sophomore season, and it looks like he’s been working out:

Correction: his armor’s been working out, since it now has built-in muscles. He’s still got that Geralt glower, though:

The new design is definitely a little more fanciful than it was in the first season, when his battle gear was plainer:

Do you like the new design? I’m not sure myself. Henry Cavill is already huge; I dunno if the armor needs to accentuate his build further. And who in medieval times would make something like that? The sculpted muscles kind of put me in the mind of the infamous nipple Bat-suits from 1997’s Batman & Robin:

Geralt’s duds aren’t that bad, admittedly, but now I can’t unsee it.

This isn’t the first time the show’s armor has drawn comment. In the first season, the soldiers in the invading Nilfgaardian army wore these crinkly outfits that sort of looked like battle-ready trash bags:

That got some blowback from fans, and showrunner Lauren Hissrich has already promised that it’ll be changed for season 2.

Expect The Witcher season 2 to hit sometime next year. And Geralt isn’t the only character getting some new threads:
