The Dragon Reborn: “What Is Written In Prophecy,” “People Of The Dragon”

"“Fool!” he howled. “The Great Lord of the Dark can never be defeated!”"

The final chapters of The Dragon Reborn take place in the city of Tear, home to the impregnable Stone of Tear. Nyneave, Egwene and Elayne have been unwillingly betrayed by Juilin Sandar, a thief-catcher, and handed over to the Black Ajah once again. All the while, Rand has tried to run from his responsibilities but finds himself in the Stone of Tear, fulfilling prophecy with every step he takes whether he wants to or not.

These chapters see Mat and a repentant Juilin test their luck and rescue the Aes Sedai in-training. They have to be careful as they escape, because Rand and the Forsaken Be’lal duel in the Stone of Tear. Moiraine interrupts the battle and kills Be’lal with balefire. Ba’alzamon appears, disables Moiraine, and attacks Rand. Rand wields Callandor, proving himself the Dragon Reborn, and with it kills Ba’alzamon.

Again, Jordan finds a way to weave his various storylines together to create a brilliant finale. One of the best moments comes when the people of Tear wake up the next morning, filling the streets and chanting, “The Dragon! Al’Thor!”
