His Dark Materials season 2 gets a poster and release date!
By Dan Selcke
We have an official release date for the second season of His Dark Materials, HBO’s stately, dimension-hopping fantasy series.
Very soon, HBO will be back with more His Dark Materials, its adaptation of Philip Pullman’s beloved fantasy novels. Season 1 ended with Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) both stepping through tears in reality into new worlds. The second season will adapt Pullman’s The Subtle Knife, which many fans (okay, me) think is the best His Dark Materials book, so consider me hyped.
But just how soon are we getting the new episodes? HBO finally cleared that up today. According to a new poster, we’ll be watching His Dark Materials season 2 on November 17:
I thought the first season of His Dark Materials was solid but not as good as I was hoping considering the strength of the source material and HBO’s reputation for adapting fantasy books (*cough cough* Game of Thrones *cough cough*). That said, the show got better as it went along and ended on a high note. With The Subtle Knife being such a strong entry, hopefully season 2 can hit the ground running.
His Dark Materials season 2 was filmed before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down pretty much all of Hollywood, which is for the good. Hopefully, we’ll get a third season that will adapt the final book in Pullman’s trilogy, The Amber Spyglass.
