See the subtle knife in action in new His Dark Materials trailer

Will Parry uses the subtle knife to slice and dice the fabric of reality in a new trailer for His Dark Materials. Season 2 comes out soon!
The second season of His Dark Materials, HBO’s adaptation of Philip Pullman’s wonderfuly imaginative trilogy of young adult fantasy books, premieres in just a month. The second season will adapt The Subtle Knife, arguably the best book in that trilogy, and in a new trailer, we finally get a look at the titular weapon in action:
The subtle knife is a blade that has the ability to cut through the veil separating one universe from another. On the show, it will fall to Will Parry (Amir Wilson) to wield it. We get a couple looks at him slicing and dicing the fabric of reality in the trailer.
There’s also plenty of his partner in crime Lyra (Dafne Keen) who comes from another world. The first season ended with the two of them stepping through inter-dimensional doorways. In the second, they’ll meet up in the abandoned city of Cittàgazze, which is plagued by the ghostly Spectres. On their trail is the malevolent Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson), Lyra’s mother. She’s working on behalf of the Magisterium, the religious authority that controls Lyra’s world.
There’s also Lyra’s friend Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda), who meets with Will’s dad John (Andrew Scott). And of course, we can’t forget about Iorek Byrnison the talking warrior polar bear.
All in all, it looks like His Dark Materials is gearing up for a second season that will hopefully eclipse the first. I’ll be watching when it premieres on November 16.
