Doctor Who news: David Tennant will join Jodie Whittaker for new video game in 2021
By James Aggas
Next year, Doctor Who fans will get to enjoy not one but two brand new games – one of which will feature the voices of both Jodie Whittaker and David Tennant!
One rather exciting bit of news that we overlooked last week was the announcement of not one but two brand new Doctor Who games to look forward to next year. The first is Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality, which will be released for consoles and PC.
Based on and reimagining the VR game Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, the game tells a new first-person adventure that will feature new gameplay, new monsters, and new planets for fans to enjoy. Naturally, Jodie Whittaker has a major role in the game voicing the Thirteenth Doctor – but she’s not the only Doctor to make an appearance.
Quoting Eight’s iconic line in The Night of the Doctor, the teaser for The Edge of Reality also reveals that David Tennant will star in this game as the Tenth Doctor. How will he be involved in this adventure? We can’t wait to find out.

- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
The Lonely Assassins
The other game announced for 2021 looks distinctly different. Developed for iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch by Kaigan Games, The Lonely Assassins is a brand new story featuring the Weeping Angels.
The new mobile game looks set to be heavily story-focused, as players aim to solve a mystery at Wester Drumlins – the creepy house originally seen in Blink. Will players have to deal with the consequences of that iconic episode?
Players won’t be working alone against the Angels, at least. They’ll be getting help from UNIT scientist Petronella Osgood, once again played by Ingrid Oliver.
So with one game designed for consoles and another designed for mobiles, Doctor Who fans look set to enjoy two distinctive experiences next year. We can’t wait to try them out for ourselves.
Which are you looking forward to more: The Edge of Reality or The Lonely Assassins? If you played the VR game The Edge of Time last year, what were your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments below.
