Kanye West isn’t known for his salient and lucid takes on the news of the day, but there are probably some Star Wars fans who can get behind this one.

In his least controversial opinion in a long while, rapper/producer/one-time presidential candidate/human burning bush Kanye West has weighed in on Disney’s new trilogy of Star Wars movies during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. I’m not sure what else they talked about during the massive three-hour interview, but I think we can all agree this was the most important bit:

“And this is about to make me mad, right here,” West said. “The first time you’ve seen me get mad in an interview. They said George Lucas’ prequels were worse than the corporate-made Disney Star Wars. Like Revenge Of The Sith? We saw how Darth Vader was made! Like I watched that 10 times during COVID. ‘Don’t jump Anakin, I’ve got the high ground!’”

"I’m saying the prequels are better than anything…and I’m sorry Disney/Star Wars design team…no man, this is George. This is his baby. That thing was set in his heart to show us as children to show us The Hero’s Journey."

When they first came out, the Star Wars prequels received a large amount of backlash, mostly from veteran fans who felt they didn’t live up to the Original Trilogy. Time has been kinder to them, as a generation of kids who saw the prequels first grew up remembering them fondly.

As for the sequels, most people seemed to like the first movie, The Force Awakens, well enough, but The Last Jedi proved incredibly controversial and The Rise of Skywalker possibly even more so. Will time be kind to them as well?

We now await Kanye’s hot take on the final season of Game of Thrones.

dark. Next. His Dark Materials season 2 will give fans “more of everything”
