The new episode of The Mandalorian pays tribute to a fallen ally, imports ideas from Star Wars video games, and even references the dreaded “M” word.
It’s time to dissect this week’s new episode of The Mandalorian for hidden goodies! In “Chapter 12: The Siege,” Din Djarin returns to Nevarro and reunites with his old friends Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). Together, they storm an Empire facility and learn more about Moff Gideon’s sinister plot.
This episode had a couple of well-hidden Easter eggs and references to previous Mandalorian episodes and the Star Wars movies. Did you catch them? If not, we’re all over it.
IG-11 statue
Nevarro has changed a lot since Mando left. Cara Dune is the marshal now, schools have been built, and an old friend can be seen at the center of the town. Before Greef and Cara show Mando the school, look out for a statue IG-11 in the background. Blink and you might miss it!
A little refresher: IG-11 (Taika Waititi) was an assassin droid programmed by the Bounty Hunters’ Guild. In the series premiere, he met Mando after they both took on the job to find and kill the Child. After Mando shot him, Kuiil (Nick Nolte) reprogrammed him to assist him on his moisture farm. IG-11 met his demise at the end of season 1 when he sacrificed himself so Mando, Cara, Greef and the Child could escape the Empire…or what’s left of it.
Immortalizing the droid by building a statue is a sweet gesture that shows how grateful Cara and Greef are for his sacrifice. Hopefully, Mando notices it next time he’s in town so he can pay his respects to an old friend.
This was a nice little easter egg in this episode that made us miss the lovable droid, but where is the statue for Kuiil? He’s the reason IG-11 was reprogrammed, and he died trying to save the Child. Maybe there will be a mural of him somewhere in Nevarro the next time Mando visits.
