Midi-chlorians

After storming the Imperial base, Mando and company discover that it’s actually a lab. They come across a pair of Imperial workers trying to purge the place of information, and shoot them.

A hologram recording from Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi), the doctor who was experimenting on the Child in season 1, survived. The message was sent to Moff Gideon, and explains that the doctor harvested the Child’s blood and injected it into test subjects. Apparently one subject was showing promising results until its body suddenly rejected the blood. Finally, Pershing commented on how the Child had a high “M-count.” We suspect the “M” in M-count stands for midi-chlorians.

Midi-chlorians were introduced in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, and were described as microscopic organisms that lived in all living beings and allowed Force users to wield their power. George Lucas received backlash after introducing this concept, and they were barely mentioned again in subsequent movies but were often alluded to in the expanded Star Wars universe.

Given how much midi-chlorians are despised in the community, it was a good call to refer to them as just “M.” That being said, it seems the Child possesses a high amount of midi-chlorians, and the Empire needs that for whatever they are planning next. So we’ll probably hear more of the dreaded organism as the show progresses.
