The new episode of The Mandalorian is chock full of references to Star Wars mythology, from big bads past to mysterious planets to alien owls.

This week’s episode of The Mandalorian gave fans a lot to talk about! In “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” Din Djarin finally finds Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) in what promises to be the final step in his quest to reunite the Child with his people. We also learn that the Child’s name is Grogu, and that Ahsoka is searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character who, like her, featured in some of the Star Wars animated series put out over the past several years.

This episode was replete with references to those series: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Did you catch all of them? If not, we’ve here to fill you in!

Ahsoka and the Convorees

Before Mando and Grogu meet Ahsoka, we see a small owl sitting on a branch, around the 15:30 mark of the episode. These owls are known as convorees, and they first appeared in The Clone Wars. Ahsoka encounters some convorees in the episode “Padawan Lost” and one flies over Ahsoka’s head in the Star Wars Rebels episode “The Mystery of Chopper Base.” There are other moments of Ahsoka and the bird being connected, but these are the most significant.

While the connection is not explained, we know that The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni created both the creature and Ahsoka Tano. Filoni directed this week’s episode, which makes sense, since it featured a lot of things he introduced into the Star Wars universe. Including the convorees is just another way to tie The Mandalorian to the other shows he created.

Will we ever figure out the connection between Ahsoka and the convorees? Possibly not. But the next time you see one, know that Ahsoka Tano is probably nearby.
