Ahsoka remembers Anakin

Ahsoka refuses to train Grogu when she realizes how attached he is to Mando, saying that the Child’s attachment to the bounty hunter makes him vulnerable to his fears and anger. “I’ve seen what such feelings can do to a fully trained Jedi Knight,” she says, referring to her former master, Anakin Skywalker.

The young Togruta became Anakin’s padawan during the Clone Wars. They fought alongside each other in many battles until Ahsoka left the Jedi order after being framed for an attack on the Jedi temple. The two briefly reunite in the last season of The Clone Wars before Anakin and Obi-Wan rescue Chancellor Palpatine from Count Dooku and General Grievous, the event that kicked off Revenge of the Sith.

Ahsoka didn’t reencounter Anakin until after he turned to the dark side. After he became Darth Vader, she fought him in Star Wars Rebels, managing to save her friend Ezra Bridger from his clutches. She perished during the fight, but Ezra managed to reach back in time to rescue her from Vader’s killing blow.

Scarred from facing off against her former master and friend, Ahsoka might fear that Grogu will turn into the next Vader if she trains him. She affirms her decision when she says, “I will not start this child down that path.”
