9. Aes Sedai

The most powerful magic-users in the land, the Aes Sedai have an incredible reputation to life up to. The Aes Sedai have to feel like Aes Sedai and that’s all there is to it: powerful, wise, implacable and sometimes very scary.

We can bet that Amazon will dress and cast the Aes Sedai right — Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike is playing Moiraine, the Aes Sedai we get to know first and best — but the show will also need to build their presence. These master manipulators pull the strings of kingdoms. The common folk are full of stories nasty stories about them, and our heroes feel the same; by and large, they distrust Moiraine and her organization from the start.

The show has casts over a dozen Aes Sedai so far, but there are a lot more to come. The original synopsis for the show almost made it sound like Moiraine was the main character, although that would be a pretty big departure from the source material.

That said, Moiraine is the main character of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time prequel novel New Spring. There’s even evidence that the show is borrowing from that book, so perhaps the story will start with her before bringing in some of the other main characters. And that could pay benefits since the Aes Sedai are so important to the story.

Fingers crossed that fans will be treated to a trailer before the year ends.
