Mille Bobby Brown gets emotional recalling “disrespectful” fan encounter
Millie Bobby Brown became a bonafide superstar when Stranger Things premiered back in 2016, but it’s not always a smooth ride.
As reported by Digital Spy, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has spoken out after an encounter with a fan left her feeling angry and disrespected. In a video posted on her Instagram Stories, Brown revealed that she was at the mall shopping with her mother when a fan asked the Netflix star if she could make a video recording of her. Brown declined, but just a few minutes later the fan began to film her anyway.
Millie Bobby Brown further elaborated on how unnerving the encounter was.
"It just makes me upset when people try to push the boundary, and I just wish people were more respectful. I’m still trying to navigate this all and it’s still overwhelming… I will take a picture with you but when you push the boundary and you try and fight me on it, where are my rights to say no? Ultimately I’m making this video to say, you have to show more respect for others, no matter who they are, what they do, show respect human being to human being. It’s just manners."
As reported by BestLife, Brown has deleted her TikTok account, which could be a direct result of this uncomfortable experience. You can watch part of Millie Bobby Brown’s statement about the incident in the Entertainment Tonight video below.
Even though Millie Bobby Brown has skyrocketed to fame ever since Stranger Things premiered, at the end of the day she’s still just a 16-year-old girl. Just like anyone else, she has a right to her privacy. Even though fans sometimes feel a personal connection to celebrities, it’s important to remember that everyone has boundaries. No matter who you are, it’s common courtesy to ask for consent before invading someone’s personal space.
Millie Bobby Brown has done nothing but provide her fans with quality entertainment across the board, and she has championed social justice issues like gun control and children’s rights. In 2018, Brown was the youngest person ever to become a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. At the end of the day, she is not just a celebrity. She is a philanthropist, a friend, a sister, and a daughter. I think it’s important that fans keep these ideas in mind when trying to interact with someone that they don’t actually know.
Millie Bobby Brown wasn’t on the red carpet that day; she was just out shopping with her mom. If she wanted to be in a video, she would have given her permission.
