And now Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will be in Spider-Man 3!

The cast of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 3 keeps getting bigger, with each new face being more unexpected than the last.

Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man movie is shaping up to be something else…the other day, we learned that it’s going to feature a ton of actors from Spider-Man movies past, including Andrew Garfield and (probably) Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, with Emma Stone also expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy. And all that is on top of Jamie Foxx returning as Electro, which we’ve known for a while.

How do all these folks come together? It likely has something to do with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who will also have a big role. That guy likes to mix it up in the multiverse, so the theory is that the movie will see Strange and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker traveling to alternate universes with alternate universe Spider-Men. It sounds like it’ll basically be the live-action version of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we’re okay with that.

But according to Murphy’s Multiverse (how appropriate), Spider-Man 3 (subtitle with the word “home” in it somewhere forthcoming) will also include an unexpected character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe we know: Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock on the Netflix show Daredevil, will reportedly appear as the famously fearless blind superhero.

Daredevil fans have been starved for Cox to turn up again as Murdock ever since Netflix cancelled the show following its third season. And it was never guaranteed to happen, since Netflix and Disney/Marvel had a weird joint custody agreement with the character; increasing tensions between the companies are reportedly the reason Netflix cancelled Daredevil and other Marvel shows in the first place.

But recently, the rights to the character reverted fully back to Marvel, meaning Kevin Feige and company can technically do whatever they want with him now. We always expected Feige to use Daredevil again eventually, but I don’t think we expected it to happen this soon.

As for what Murdock will get up in the movie, Grace Randolph — who runs the very successful YouTube show Beyond the Trailer — came through with some details:

So Matt Murdock will be Spider-Man’s lawyer in the movie! So on top of hopping between dimensions, he also gets in trouble with the law? Again I say, this movie is shaping up to be something else.

The return of Cox’s Daredevil is a pretty big deal. I wonder if characters from the other cancelled Marvel shows — Jessica JonesLuke Cage and Iron Fist — will ever be repurposed.
