Five things we want to see in The Expanse season 5
The penultimate season of The Expanse is quickly approaching. There’s a lot we’re looking forward to seeing, from reunions to action to revenge.
The fifth season of The Expanse is heading to Amazon Prime Video this Wednesday, and we’re looking forward to seeing our favorite Inners and Belters again. Season 4 ended with a pretty huge cliffhanger: Belter Marco Inaros killed Klaes Ashford and is currently flinging an asteroid cloaked by Martian stealth tech at Earth. Chrisjen Avasarala loses her seat as Secretary-General of the UN, Bobbie Draper is back in the fight, and the crew of the Rocinante return home after their mission on Ilus.
It looks like Holden, Naomi, Amos and Alex will be split up this season, which will give us a new perspective on them. Bobbie and Avasarala, who dealt with some major challenges last year, are thrown together once again.
I’m mainly interested in seeing how Marco Inaros pushes the narrative forward, and how he’ll push our characters to their limits, especially Naomi. Based on the trailer below, I think this will be one of the show’s best seasons. Here’s what we most want to see:
Naomi’s struggle
In season 4, we are introduced to Marco Inaros, a radical from the Belt and the former lover of Naomi Nagata, and the father of her son Filip.
Now that Inaros will be the main antagonist of this upcoming season, we’ll be seeing Naomi in a different light as she deals with this new conflict. At the end of season 4, Naomi sends Fred Johnson a message asking for help finding her son, as she fears his father will get him killed.
In the season 5 trailer, Naomi tells Holden that she is going to Pallas Station to find her son. We also see a flashback of a younger Naomi with Marco and Filip as they smile and look like a happy little family.
This season could be one of Naomi’s best. We could get some intense scenes with Filip having to choose to stay with his father or leave with his mother. It will also be nice to see her reconnect with her son and try to sway him away from his father’s resistance.
