Hugh Jackman last played the iconic Marvel mutant in Logan (2017), and fans are still hungry for more Wolverine action. It’s currently unknown whether Jackman will reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Wolverine will be there in some form or another, sooner or later. While we wait for that, London-based filmmaker Mahmut Akay is filling in the gaps with this tense, witty, and violent fan film. Check it out:
I was impressed at how the film manages to capture the tone of X-Men; there’s a decent amount of backstory given the 10-minute run time. I also liked Cameron Jack performance as Logan, who’s let himself go a little bit. He wants his iconic hairstyle changed after being inspired to integrate himself back into human society by a motivational tape from Absolutely Fabulous star Julia Sawalha. But Wolverine just can’t get a haircut in peace.
I had to laugh at how these barbers thought they could kill Wolverine. Do they not realize that he can heal and has survived being riddled by bullets in his past? What chance to their scissors have?Naturally, Logan is less than pleased with the customer service and decides to kill them all, which sounds like something he’d do.
There are many X-Men fan films out there, and this is among the best. It’s so wonderfully (and brutally) captures Wolverine’s personality. If you loved this, you should also check out Akay’s other movies on his official website.
