Doctor Who news: The Eighth Doctor remains stuck on Earth in Stranded 2
By James Aggas
The Eighth Doctor will be meeting some old friends next year – including a certain Brigadier – in the next volume of his current Doctor Who series Stranded!
With a brand new Doctor Who special to look forward to on New Year’s Day, plus Big Finish’s own 50th-anniversary special for the Master the day after, there’s been a lot of news to cover this month. But while we’re anticipating these two major Doctor Who stories (now just under two weeks away), it’s time to look a little further ahead. To Mar 2021, when the next volume of Stranded will be released.
To recap on the series so far: in Stranded 1, the Eighth Doctor and his two companions – Liv and Helen – found themselves stranded in modern-day London. The Doctor has been struggling to live in a time and place where there isn’t always an alien menace to confront. On top of that, he’s had to deal with the new responsibilities of being a landlord, due to owning the house on Baker Street that has now become home to several tenants.
The first volume’s more restricted style was a bold approach for Big Finish to take. But it was also an effective one and helped to breathe new life into the Eighth Doctor’s long-running series of audio adventures. So what can we expect in volume 2?
The returning cast for Stranded 2 (L to R): Hattie Morahan, Rebecca Root, Tom Price, Paul McGann and Nicola Walker.

Limited time travel
While the first volume had the Doctor completely unable to use his TARDIS at all, the second volume will see things change significantly, as producer David Richardson reveals.
"Things have moved on a little since Stranded 1. The Doctor and his friends are no longer stranded in time – just in space! With the ship able to move backwards and forwards through London history, the Doctor gets to take his extended Baker Street family through their own pasts and futures. And there might just be an Ogron on the way…"
Along with Paul McGann, Nicola Walker, and Hattie Morahan starring in the series as the Eighth Doctor, Liv Chenka, and Helen Sinclair, Stranded 2 will feature several other key characters, many of which are returning from the first volume.
Rebecca Root is back as Tania Bell, a tenant who’s keeping one or two secrets of her own, and Clive Wood will appear once more as the mysterious Mr. Bird. More familiar characters include the Curator (Tom Baker), Sergeant Andy Davidson from Torchwood (Tom Price), and most intriguing of all, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Jon Culshaw).
Doctor Who: Stranded 2 will be released in Mar 2021 and is available to pre-order now on CD and download from Big Finish’s website. You can check out our review of the first volume here.
