Doctor Who’s Michelle Gomez more than willing to return as Missy

Doctor Who is known to bring back former incarnations of the Doctor…and of the Master. How about the first female Doctor and Master onscreen together?

Doctor Who has had all kinds of characters come in and out of the series over the decades, and many leave a lasting impression. That includes the female incarnation of villain the Master, known as Missy (Michelle Gomez).

We last saw Missy in the Doctor Who season 10 finale “The Doctor Falls,” where there were not one but two Masters for Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor to contend with. (Shout-out to John Simms for returning as the Master in this episode!)

It’s been over three years since that episode, and Sacha Dhawan has taken over the role of the Master (and doing a marvelous job, I may add). But two Masters have shared the screen before, so it’s not impossible for it to happen again. Might Missy return one day?

Michelle Gomez sounds more than willing. “It’s never a closed chapter as far as Doctor Who is concerned!” she recently told Digital Spy. “I would love to, at some point, pop back up again. That’s a firm, ‘Yes, I am available’. Well, I’m not actually [laughs]. Not right now. But I will be. I will be!”

Gomez has been busy these last few years, with roles in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant alongside The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco. But it sounds like she’d find the time for Doctor Who if asked, so here’s to hoping the producers find a way to make it happen!

Speaking of returns, it’s no longer a surprise that John Barrowman will once again appear as Captain Jack Harkness in the upcoming Doctor Who holiday special “Revolution of the Daleks.” Speaking to best Magazine, he explained how Jack has changed since we last saw him:

"Well… he’s a little older! It’s an interesting dynamic. When he’s with the Doctor, he’s the gunslinger in town – he’s the ‘muscle’. But here, he comes back with more responsibility on his shoulders, with more experience behind him. And it’s interesting, he kind of becomes like an agony aunt to the character of Yaz. They have a very sweet conversation – in it, they’re basically recognizing the flaws, the good and the bad in the Doctor. And Jack knows, he’s been here before, with other Doctors."

I’m very much looking forward to seeing Jack mix it up with the Doctor’s current companions. He has a lot of advice to give them if they’re willing to listen.

And what about his relationship with Doctor herself? This will be the third incarnation of the Doctor Jack will have met. New Year’s Day can’t come soon enough!
