The Witcher, Umbrella Academy actors among IMDb’s Top Stars of 2020

Aidan Gallagher (Five in The Umbrella Academy) and Anya Chalotra (The Witcher) top IMDb’s list of the biggest breakout stars of 2020!
Leading entertainment database IMDb have unveiled its list of the Top Stars from 2020, and it’s chock-full of talent from the world of fantasy and science fiction. In fact, Aiden Gallagher (Five in The Umbrella Academy) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer in The Witcher) take the coveted first and second places in the list of Top 10 Breakout Stars!
If these Top 10 lists prove anything, they show what a successful year it has been for streaming services, especially Netflix, even with new competition from the likes of Disney+. Although I suspect 2021 could be a totally different story with Disney recently making some huge moves in the streaming wars.
The Top 10 Stars of 2020
IMDb calculates these rankings based on the page views of more than 200 million monthly visitors to the STARmeter chart, an IMDbPro resource. Based on that metric, Ana de Armas (Knives Out) and Julia Garner (Ozark) top the list of 2020 stars. Chalotra and Gallagher show up on the list as well, in third and seventh place respectively. In fifth is Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys. Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey) comes in sixth, three places up from last year’s list. Creeping in at tenth place is another Witcher actor: Henry Cavill, who plays lead character Geralt of Rivia.
Meanwhile, Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things comes in at fourth place, The Queen’s Gabmit’s Anya Taylor-Joy takes eighth, and Dead To Me star Linda Cardellini is ninth. In 2019, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) placed third, but this year she’s not on the list.

The Top 10 Breakout IMDb Stars
The entrants on the list of Top 10 Breakout Stars are pulled from the ranks of those who appeared on the IMDb annual Top 100 list for the first time in 2020, as well as consistently ranking high on the IMDbPro STARmeter chart throughout the year.
Although The Witcher premiered in 2019 with no new episodes since, Anya Chalotra takes the number one spot, with Freya Allan (Ciri) coming in ninth! The Witcher season 2 can’t come fast enough. And Aiden Gallagher delighted fans as Five in the second season of The Umbrella Academy, which is officially coming back for a third round. Accolades are also due to sixth place finisher Jurnee Smollett, who gave an incendiary performance in Lovecraft Country.

Speaking to TheWrap, IMDbPro head Matt Kumi explained what made this year’s rankings special:
"With more time at home this year than ever before, entertainment played a huge role in our lives, and people around the world turned to IMDb to discover and decide what to watch and learn more about the stars of their new favorite shows and movies."
It’s no surprise that there was one star of The Umbrella Academy on here. According to HighSpeedInternet.com, the show was the most popular Netflix drama in 17 states in 2020, making it the most popular show in the U.S.
I’m surprised we didn’t see Pedro Pascal make the list, but The Mandalorian season 2 probably arrived too late in the year. Here’s to 2021!
