Lucy Lawless slams Kevin Sorbo for spreading D.C. riot conspiracy theories
By Dan Selcke
Xena was better than Hercules back in the ’90s and is still better today. This is just a reminder.
It’s been a few days since a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., an act of insurrection that resulted in five deaths, including of a Capitol Police officer. Most of the country is still reeling from this and grappling with how to move on.
But some are playing 3D chess against their own brains and claiming that the people who waved Trump flags, listened to Trump give an inflammatory speech right beforehand, and planned the event for weeks ahead of time are somehow…not Trump supporters but secret leftist agents pretending to be Trump supporters, even though that makes no sense and the few feeble attempts to make the argument have been thoroughly debunked.
Weirdly, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys star Kevin Sorbo is one of these people, and posted about it on Twitter. But who should be there to set the record straight other than Lucy Lawless, who played the title character on Hercules sister show Xena: Warrior Princess:
“They don’t look like Patriots to me,” Sorbo writes, “Patriots” being what these ding-dongs apparently call themselves, because I know that when I think of patriotism I think of desecrating the halls of Congress because the guy I like lost an election. Anyway, Lawless was there to bring down the sword…or maybe throw that circlet thing Xena threw back in the day:
"No, Peanut. They are not Patriots. They are your flying monkeys, homegrown terrorists, QAnon actors. They are the douchebags that go out and do the evil bidding of people like you who like to wind them up like toys and let them do their worst. #keepingYourFilthyHandsclean #enabler"
I didn’t expect 2021 to include a feud between the king and queen of campy ’90s fantasy TV, but the year has been nothing if not full of surprises.
Sorbo has a history of alt-right quackery, so it’s not surprising to hear that he and Lawless have had a tense relationship for a while. Who knows what other ’90s icons may get involved before all of this is over?
