There’s been talk of an Outlander spinoff for years, but we don’t know what (or who) it would be about. Here are five potential spinoffs we’d love to see!

Outlander fans are currently in the midst of what will likely be the longest Droughtlander ever. The sixth season of Starz’s beloved time-traveling romance has yet to start production, and with season 5 already fading in the rearview mirror, we’re in for a long wait.

But there has been some interesting news in this dry stretch. Way back in January of 2020, Entertainment Weekly sat down with Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch, who talked about the possibility of Outlander spinoff shows:

"We continue to talk on a regular basis about developing the story line around Outlander. It’s something that we are aware of. We want to continue to serve that audience with what we think are the best stories."

There are a ton of characters and storylines on Outlander, so Starz has a lot of ways it could go if it wants to make a spinoff or two. To help him out, here are five we’d love to watch!

The Adventures of Lord John Grey

When Starz opens up about the spinoffs, I’m almost 100% certain that the first one will be about the character of Lord John Grey, played by David Berry. We’re introduced to the character in season 3, and he showed up off and on thereafter.

Lord John Grey is an important person in the life of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). From helping Jamie serve out his time in Helwater to raising his illegitimate son, Lord John has truly been there for Jaime. He also fell in love with Jamie, which accounts for a lot of his devotion and support.

Lord John Grey is an obvious choice for a spinoff, in no small part because Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has already written six novellas and three novels about him. These books have a historical mystery element to them, as well as a touch of the supernatural (one of the stories is called Lord John and the Plague of Zombies). Starz would have a lot to work with.

If this show does come to pass, most fans will want to see Berry reprise his role as Lord John Grey. There’s really no one else who makes sense! And since Berry has seemingly left Outlander, he should have the time for the role. For all we know, that’s why he left in the first place!

A Lord John spinoff is something we all need and are waiting for, so Starz, we’re looking to you to make it happen!
