Check out concept art for Amazon’s The Wheel of Time show

Amazon is adapting The Wheel of Time for TV! Here’s what Emond’s Field, Shadar Logoth and other iconic locations will look like.
Amazon Studios is forging ahead with its TV adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time books, treating fans the other day to a production video and some nifty concept art. Let’s take a look and see what we can decode.
First up, we have showrunner Rafe Judkins giving new thoughts on what it means to adapt these beloved books:
The Eye of the World, the very first book in the saga, was published 31 years ago yesterday, hence the honor. “What’s special about The Eye of the World is the themes of balance and gender, and the emotional journey of these characters,” Judkins said. “As a fan of the books, I feel so lucky we get to bring this world to life.”
The concept art is about the best look fans have gotten of the series thus far. Amazon looks to be creating a massive, gorgeous world.
In the first image, we see two men overlooking a valley. “There appears to be a small encampment and bridge near the river below.” This seems to be main character Rand al’Thor, carrying a Two Rivers bow on his back, and Matrim Cauthon, holding a staff. These farm boys from Emond’s Field are two of the heroes of the story, and it looks like they’re on the section of their journey where they’re traveling by themselves. True, Mat doesn’t have his staff that early in the series, but giving it to him from the get-go aligns with Judkin’s comments about wanting to adapt the whole series, not just each book individually.
Next, we see “a festival, with numerous lights adorning the town and women dancing in a circle as men look on.” This is easily recognizable as the celebration of Bel Tine in Emond’s Field, which marks the arrival of spring. Our villager heroes are looking forward to it as The Eye of the World begins. The festival should be a fun way to kick off the series before everything gets dark and serious.
A while back, we also got a look at the completed Emond’s Field set:
It’s interesting to look at both of these images and see how the team took the concept art and made it reality.
Next we have what looks like a circle of Tinker wagons, although they’re not as colorful as described in the books. Tinkers, also known as Tuatha’an or Traveling People, are nomadic. Based on this concept art and the casting of Daryl McCormack as Aram, Maria Doyle Kennedy as Ilya, and Narinder Samra as Raen — three important Tinkers from the books — it seems Tinkers will get a good deal of screen time in the first season.
The fourth picture doesn’t tell us much: it’s people on horseback riding over a stream. But look closely and you can see a looming tower in the background through the trees. It’s possible the riders are traveling towards the White Tower…but more likely they’re making for the haunted city of Shador Logoth as our heroes do in The Eye of the World.
Speaking of the haunted city of Shadar Logoth…”A hooded rider on horseback in a deserted city covered by a pale white fog.” This almost has to be the ruined city, which plays a big part in the middle stretch of the first book. The massive buildings and domes look perfect for the ancient city, and the fog shows off the presence of Mashadar.
The looks we get of The Wheel of Time show seem to get better and better every week. As the Amazon production engine turns, things may be gearing up for a larger teaser or trailer soon. Cross your fingers, fans.
